Emmy And Peabody Award Winning Journalist Joins the Rising Media Platform
Leon Media Network is proud to announce that Emmy and Peabody Award winning journalist Rick Sanchez is coming to the network with an entertaining new show entitled Journalistically Speaking with Rick Sanchez. On the program, Sanchez will provide viewers and listeners with unique insight and perspectives that come from his longstanding career in the media industry, tackling a top news story within a daily 10-minute informative format.
“I am excited to have Rick Sanchez be a part of LMN,” said Michael Leon, Chief Executive & Content Officer of Leon Media Network. “This show, in its daily format, and subject matter, fits in perfectly with what news is missing these days – the perspectives of journalists who have covered these issues – and we are grateful to be a part of helping Rick in this endeavor and bringing him to LMN in this daily news format.”
Rick Sanchez has worked as a journalist and television news anchor for more than 30 years. He spent decades in the media industry at both the global and national level, and he has reached tens of millions of worldwide viewers via major outlets such as CNN, Fox News, NBC, Univision, RT and iHeartRadio.
“I am thrilled to be a part of the ‘Journalistically Speaking’ show launch on LMN,” said Sanchez. “Journalism is in trouble right now, because in my opinion, stories are not being covered the right way, journalists are not asking the right questions, and I wanted to do something about that. And with this new show, and specifically its daily format, I feel like we will tackle the issues and get to the core of the story itself, the way true journalism should work.”
At CNN, Sanchez was the host of his own show called Rick’s List and frequently served as a substitute anchor for CNN’s primetime broadcast at 8 PM. One of the highest rated anchors on CNN during his time with the network, Sanchez won several Emmys and was part of three Peabody Award winning teams. Further, he is an Alfred I. duPont Award recipient, which is considered one of the most prestigious awards in journalism. Sanchez also anchored CNN’s Peabody Award-winning coverage of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, where he went nearly 48 hours without sleep. He first began anchoring the coverage from Atlanta before flying to Louisiana to report live from the scene.
Throughout his illustrious career, Sanchez has interviewed prominent newsmakers and world leaders including Jimmy Carter, Fidel Castro, Bill Clinton, Mikhail Gorbachev and Manuel Noriega. He has reported on major events across the United States and around the world, including on-the-scene coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York. He has also reported numerous times in Havana, Cuba, as well as live from war zones in Nicaragua, Grenada and during the fall of the Jean-Claude Duvalier regime in Haiti. Sanchez has been widely acknowledged for his work in those coverage zones, also winning an Emmy for his series titled When I Left Cuba.
An impassioned advocate and pioneer in marrying social media and the news, Sanchez was one of the first national news anchors to use Twitter. The New York Times singled him out as a social media trailblazer in 2009, while NPR famously wrote, “CNN news anchor Rick Sanchez was tweeting before Twitter was cool.” Additionally, he was a pioneer in using social media to launch viewer-driven newscasts, a concept he likes to refer to as a “national conversation.”
Journalistically Speaking with Rick Sanchez officially launches on Tuesday, December 17th, and the show will be available via the Leon Media Network website. Additionally, the program will be on Apple and Spotify for audio, and all videos can be viewed on YouTube and Rumble.
