The Connecticut Junior Soccer Association has set the tryout dates for its upcoming season of the Connecticut Olympic Development Program (ODP). Tryouts for the 2023-24 ODP season will take place in Farmington during the weekend of November 18 (Girls) and November 19 (Boys), and registration is currently open.

“In our always evolving youth soccer landscape, ODP still remains a valuable identification pathway without having to take on another full-time team commitment,” said Josh Krusewski, Executive Director of the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association. “For those players looking for a little bit more, ODP provides club-neutral supplemental training.”

Connecticut ODP is open to players in the 12U to 17U age range (birth years of 2007 to 2013), and tryouts will be conducted on the turf field at Tunxis Mead Park in Farmington. Girls ODP Tryouts will be held on Saturday, November 18, with Boys ODP Tryouts taking place the following day on Sunday, November 19. Registration for tryouts is currently available at a discounted rate of $25 for players who sign-up prior to October 31. Starting on November 1, the fee to register for Connecticut ODP Tryouts will be $35.

Connecticut ODP is not in competition with a player’s club team. The program serves as a way to supplement player development, and efforts are made to minimize schedule conflicts with a player’s club team commitments.

The Olympic Development Program is an identification system linked to the United States Soccer Federation and US Youth Soccer. The program offers its players a pathway that could lead to representing Regional and U.S. Youth National Teams. Originally established in 1977, ODP was the first program in the country designed to identify potential youth national team players. ODP players begin initially at the local sector before progressing to the state, regional and possibly national levels. By playing with like-talented athletes, ODP offers the opportunity for players to advance in their personal development and to be scouted by college coaches.
