Imani Dorsey, Savannah McCaskill Voted NWSL Rookie of the Year Finalists

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) officially announced today that Sky Blue FC forward Imani Dorsey and midfielder Savannah McCaskill have been voted as finalists for the 2018 NWSL Rookie of the Year Award.

In the final round of voting – owners, general managers, head coaches, players, media and fans will vote from now until Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 11:59 p.m. ET to determine individual award winners and the 2018 NWSL Best XI.

Dorsey, 22, was the no. 5 overall selection by Sky Blue FC in the 2018 NWSL College Draft. The Duke University graduate opted to finish up her degree before joining the club full-time and making her professional debut against the Washington Spirit on June 8. Despite playing in just 13 total games during the 2018 season, Dorsey still finished the year with a team-leading four goals (tied with Katie Johnson and Carli Lloyd) while also adding an assist. Her four goals were more than any other rookie in the NWSL this season.

McCaskill, 22, arrived at Sky Blue FC after being selected with the no. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NWSL Dispersal Draft. The South Carolina product was a steady fixture in the Starting XI from the beginning of the season, playing 1,510 minutes over 20 appearances during the 2018 campaign. On the year, she recorded three goals and a team-leading three assists (tied with Shea Groom). Her three goals were the second highest among NWSL rookies in 2018, while her three assists were the top mark among first-year players in the league.
