Peter Grandich and Company announced that the firm will be sponsoring an Irish Heritage Drivers Race at Freehold Raceway on Saturday, March 12th. Joining Peter and Mary Grandich for the event will be former boxing world title challengers Gerry Cooney and John Duddy, along with former NFL Pro Bowl punter Jeff Feagles, who became a Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants in 2008.

Each of these gentlemen will be present in the Winners Circle for the presentation to the winning horse and driver of the Irish Heritage Drivers Race. Further, they will be available for the public to meet in the Renaissance Dining Room throughout the day.

“Having first sponsored this race in 2014, I am especially pleased that we will also be making a significant donation this year to the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Jersey Shore, of which I am a member,” said Peter Grandich, Managing Member of Peter Grandich and Company.

When he was an active prizefighter, the left hook of Gerry Cooney was one of the most feared punches in boxing. Following a 54-second destruction of former world champion Ken Norton at Madison Square Garden in 1981, Cooney secured a date the following year with WBC Heavyweight Champion Larry Holmes, where he gave a valiant 13-round performance against the unbeaten Holmes. After the fight, Cooney continued to box until his 1990 professional finale against George Foreman. One of the most beloved figures in boxing, the highly philanthropic Cooney now co-hosts SiriusXM’s At The Fights with former New York State Athletic Commissioner, Randy Gordon.

A native of Derry, Ireland, John Duddy stopped 13 of the first 14 opponents he faced after becoming a professional boxer in 2003. He was a huge attraction across New York, regularly competing throughout the city and showcasing his talents on nine occasions at Madison Square Garden. The former WBC Continental Americas and IBA middleweight champion fought 31 times over his seven-year career before crossing over into the world of acting following his retirement from boxing in 2010.

Jeff Feagles enjoyed a 22-year run in the National Football League, punting for five different organizations and eventually concluding his career with the New York Giants in 2009. The two-time Pro Bowler won a national championship in college at the University of Miami in addition to winning a Super Bowl with the Giants in 2008. Over the course of his 22 professional seasons, Feagles never missed a single game. He still currently holds the NFL records for most punt yards (71,211), most punts (1,713) and most consecutive games played (352).

In association with the event at Freehold Raceway, Peter Grandich and Company will be making a significant contribution to the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Jersey Shore, which is an organization dedicated to increasing the awareness of the cultural achievements of the Irish. The spirited group has been coming together to promote its Irish heritage on the Jersey Shore through social events and charitable endeavors since 1973.
