Following a great month of play in September, Sky Blue FC defender Kelley O’Hara has been selected to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Team of the Month by the NWSL Media Association.
O’Hara registered a goal and an assist in Sky Blue FC’s 2017 season finale, a 4-3 comeback win over the Boston Breakers at Jordan Field in Allston, Mass. The goal by O’Hara came in the 87th minute when she struck home a feed from Leah Galton, which served as the game-winner of the match. Sky Blue FC trailed 2-0 in that contest during the first half, but the New Jersey side scored three consecutive tallies before O’Hara eventually served up the game-winning goal.
A starting defender for Sky Blue FC, the influence of O’Hara goes well beyond numbers on the stat sheet. She created five scoring chances for her teammates during September, and the U.S. international consistently makes an impact for her club from end line to end line.
September marks the fifth consecutive month that Sky Blue FC has seen one of its players receive NWSL Team of the Month accolades, with Sam Kerr getting the nod during May, June, July and August. Kerr is currently a finalist for NWSL Most Valuable Player, and fans can vote for Kerr until Friday, Oct. 6, at 5:00 p.m.
