Sky Blue FC (4-3-1, 13 points) was notified today that forward Sam Kerr, midfielder Sarah Killion and goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan have been named to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Team of the Month by the NWSL Media Association for the month of May.
“We are very proud of Sam, Sarah and Kailen, and we are delighted to see them highlighted for their outstanding performances during May,” said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. “Credit must also be given to the entire roster because it has been a collective effort to provide these players with a platform to perform. After a good start to the season, we are very excited about our further growth that will come in June.”
In addition to her NWSL Team of the Month selection, Kerr was also named the NWSL Player of the Month for May after registering two goals and two assists over the past month of play. The Australia international scored a goal and an assist in two separate matches, giving her 28 goals over her NWSL career and leaving her two shy of becoming just the third player in league history to eclipse the 30-goal mark.
Killion receives the NWSL Team of the Month distinction after statistically putting in the most offensive month of her professional career, recording four goals during May. Those scores increase her 2017 total to five goals, which is the highest mark in the league as the season heads into June.
After being selected by Sky Blue FC in the 2017 NWSL College Draft, Sheridan has played every minute in net this season for Sky Blue FC and has adjusted to the professional ranks quite nicely, to say the least. During the month of May, she tallied 19 saves and registered three wins. Additionally, she put forth an 11-save performance against the North Carolina Courage that was the highest save total for a Sky Blue FC goalkeeper since the NWSL kicked off in 2013.
Sky Blue FC returns to action this Saturday, June 3, kicking off its month-long Pride Celebration against Portland Thorns FC at Yurcak Field. For a limited time, fans can purchase a Pride Pack that will get them seats for both Sky Blue FC home matches in June, as well as a Pride bracelet.
