NY Surf Seeks Three Points at Reinhart Field on the Campus of SUNY Maritime College
New York Surf Soccer Club (2-1-1, 7 points) returns to United Women’s Soccer (UWS) action on Saturday, welcoming the New York Magic (0-2-1, 1 points) to Reinhart Field on the campus of SUNY Maritime College in the Bronx. Kickoff for the important East Conference match-up is slated for 2:00 p.m.
NY Surf enters this Saturday matinee after playing on back-to-back days last weekend, first handing the New England Mutiny (3-1-0, 9 points) its lone defeat of the 2017 season on Saturday night at Reinhart Field, 4-2. The team then had a quick turnaround in playing the Lancaster Inferno (2-2-0, 6 points) in Pennsylvania less than 24 hours later, falling in a tightly contested 2-1 fixture.
Saturday afternoon marks the first-ever meeting between NY Surf and the Magic, a storied women’s soccer franchise with more than 20 years of history. After this weekend, NY Surf will officially find itself at the midway point of its inaugural campaign in UWS, making the outcome of this game that much more significant. The East Conference is extremely competitive this year, particularly at the top of the table, and NY Surf is just a single result behind the unbeaten Long Island Rough Riders at 10 points.
NY Surf has been very diversified this season in terms of offensive production, with six different players having scored goals for the team already. Leading the attack are forwards Furtuna Velaj and Erica Murphy, who have both registered a pair of goals.
Saturday’s match-up is the beginning of a three-game road stretch for the Magic. After drawing with the Rochester Lancers on UWS Opening Weekend, they have come out on the wrong side of two hard-fought results with the Lancaster Inferno and New England Mutiny.
Tickets for Saturday’s home match between NY Surf and the Magic can be purchased at the entrance into Reinhart Field on the campus of SUNY Maritime College, which is located at 6 Pennyfield Avenue in the Bronx. Adult tickets are $10, while kids 16 and under get into the match for $5. Additionally, any kids wearing a NY Surf jersey will receive free admission into the stadium.
