New York Surf Travels to New Jersey Copa FC on Sunday

New York Surf | New Jersey Copa FC

New York Surf Soccer Club (3-1-1, 10 points) will return to United Women’s Soccer (UWS) action on Sunday, traveling to New Jersey Copa FC (4-1-0, 12 points) for a critical East Conference match-up. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m., with the action going down at Saint John Vianney High School in Holmdel, N.J.

NY Surf enters this weekend on the heels of a 5-0 home victory over the New York Magic, a game where Furtuna Velaj registered a pair of goals and Erica Murphy scored in her third consecutive match. Goalkeeper Caroline Hickey recorded the clean slate in net, while NY Surf saw outstanding form across its back line of Totianya Guadalupe, Brooke Salmon, Hannah Uhlan and Amy Marron.

New Jersey Copa FC is currently riding a three-game winning streak, most recently defeating the Western New York Flash last weekend, 3-1. NY Surf will also be looking to hand New Jersey Copa FC its first home loss of the season at Saint John Vianney High School, where it is currently unbeaten in two contests.

The outcome of this Sunday fixture carries heavy implications on the UWS standings, where first and fourth place are separated by just three points. NY Surf and New Jersey Copa FC are two of the clubs sitting in that top portion of the table, with the other two teams being the unbeaten Long Island Rough Riders (4-0-1, 13 points) and the New England Mutiny (4-2-0, 12 points). Long Island and New England are both off this weekend, meaning that NY Surf would find itself in a first-place tie with the Rough Riders if they are able to get three points from New Jersey Copa FC on Sunday.

After playing New Jersey Copa FC on Sunday, NY Surf returns home to Reinhart Field on Saturday, June 24, hosting the Lancaster Inferno at 2:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on game day at the entrance into Reinhart Field on the campus of SUNY Maritime College, which is located at 6 Pennyfield Avenue in the Bronx. Adult tickets are $10, while kids 16 and under get into the match for $5. Additionally, any kids wearing a NY Surf jersey will receive free admission into the stadium.
