Ocean Spartans 17/18U Boys, Mainland United 16U Boys Advanced to National Competition
New Jersey Youth Soccer was well showcased over the weekend at the 2017 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup finals in Auburndale, Fla. Representing the State of New Jersey at the national competition were the Ocean Spartans 17/18U Boys and Mainland United 16U Boys after advancing from regional play in June.
“We are very proud of how our teams performed over the weekend in the National Presidents Cup,” said Buddy Hart, NJ Youth Soccer Games Commissioner. “The boys left everything on the field in each match competing with top teams from across the country. They gave a great representation of both themselves and New Jersey Youth Soccer.”
After going 1-0-2 in group play, the Ocean Spartans 17/18U Boys advanced to the championship match for their age group, playing the Inter America Halcones FC (Cal South Region). It was the second time that the two teams had played one another in the competition, with the first result being a 1-1 draw in group play. After remaining scoreless in regulation, the game headed into overtime. In the 110th minute, Inter America finally broke through on a 1v1 situation to score the lone goal of the game, taking a 1-0 decision in their favor.
The Mainland United 16U Boys went unbeaten over the weekend, advancing to the consolation match after earning three draws in group play. Mainland was then victorious in that ensuing consolation match, collectively going 1-0-3 in four games of play.
