In an effort to provide resourceful and entertaining content as the world continues to #StayAtHome to limit the spread of COVID-19, New Jersey Youth Soccer has launched an NJYS Legends Video Series. Also being produced in support of U.S. Soccer’s “BEND THE CURVE. STAY AT HOME.” campaign, the NJYS Legends Series features New Jersey ODP Technical Director James Galanis hosting online conversations with current and former professional players from the State of New Jersey.
“New Jersey has so many legends, and we figured we would tap into their knowledge to help inspire and educate,” said Galanis. “It is amazing to see how willing the most successful players in the history of New Jersey soccer are in giving their time to share their insight to our players, parents and coaches.”
The conversations highlight various topics that are relative to each guest, from sharing their best at-home training methods to reflecting back upon playing in New Jersey ODP and other NJYS programming. The launch of the NJYS Legends Series features a special two-part presentation with two-time FIFA Women’s Player of the Year, two-time FIFA World Cup champion, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, former New Jersey ODP star and current NJYS Ambassador Carli Lloyd. Joining the Sky Blue FC captain is Alecko Eskandarian, a former MAC Hermann Trophy winner, MLS Cup champion, two-time MLS All Star and former NJYS and New Jersey ODP standout. Eskandarian currently works with Major League Soccer in its Player Relations & Competition Department.
Guests on upcoming features include NJ Youth Soccer and National Soccer Hall of Famer Tony Meola, former New Jersey ODP standout and Sky Blue FC player Madison Tiernan, and former U.S. Women’s National Team players Heather O’Reilly and Yael Averbuch.
Episodes of the NJYS Legends Series are pre-recorded and will be made available through NJ Youth Soccer digital platforms such as the state association website and social media channels. The key initiative of the NJYS Legends Series is to provide highly valuable entertainment while also encouraging the New Jersey soccer community to #StayHome and practice social distancing amid the battle against COVID-19.
