Kerr Scores Pair to Lead Perth Glory to Fourth Straight Win
Sky Blue FC forward Sam Kerr continued an incredible offensive run on Tuesday for Perth Glory in Westfield W-League play, registering another pair of goals to lead her team past Melbourne City FC in a thriller, 3-2.
With the brace, Kerr has now extended her league-leading goal total to seven tallies, which is three more than her closest competitor. Additionally, the win was the fourth in a row for Perth, placing them all alone atop the W-League ladder with a cumulative 16 points on a 5-1-1 record.
After a scoreless first half, Rosie Sutton put the first goal of the match on the board for Perth in the 47th minute, only to see Jessica Fishlock level the count for Melbourne City in the 60th minute. Melbourne City then acquired a 2-1 advantage via an Aivi Luik tally in the 72nd minute, setting up a ferocious finish by Perth and Kerr in particular.
In the 77th minute, Kerr equalized when she slotted a Sutton feed under Melbourne City goalkeeper Lydia Williams. She then retook the lead for Perth after receiving distribution from Alyssa Mautz on the left side of the penalty area in the 84th minute. Once settling, Kerr struck a brilliant chip over the head of Williams, and her attempt hit the far post before redirecting into the net for the game-winner.
In addition to Kerr, Sky Blue FC midfielder Nikki Stanton also made the start and played the full 90 minutes for Perth in the win.
