NJ Youth Soccer Proudly Supports the Sammo Memorial Golf Event

Sammo Memorial Golf Event

NJ Youth Soccer proudly supported the Sammo Memorial Golf Event in 2019, and it will do so once again this year on April 24th at the Minebrook Golf Club in Hackettstown, N.J. The event is held in memory of former New Jersey soccer trainer and administrator David “Sammo” Samson, who tragically passed away from natural causes in 2016.

“The Sammo Memorial Golf Outing has proven to be a fun day of golf and laughs,” said Alan McClintock, event organizer and the Director of Soccer at United Soccer Academy. “It reunites old friends and forms new friendships within the local soccer community, all whilst fittingly remembering our good friend David Samson ‘Sammo’ and raising money for two valuable youth organizations.”

One of the beneficiaries of the Sammo Memorial Golf Event is NJYS TOPSoccer, a community based training program that is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl with special needs. Additionally, funds are being contributed to Ayrshire Sportsability, where Sammo worked in Scotland before moving to the United States. Ayrshire Sportsability gives people with disabilities the opportunity to take part in a wide range of sporting activities.

“NJ Youth Soccer is so appreciative of the generous donation from the Sammo Memorial Golf Event,” said Evan Dabby, NJ Youth Soccer Executive Director. “This event admirably supports a great person in David Samson, who gave so much of himself to the sport. We are honored to dedicate these contributions to help players with special needs enjoy soccer throughout the state.”

After arriving from Scotland, Samson worked with United Soccer Academy for more than 10 years. Due to his love of golf, the Sammo Memorial Golf Event was launched in 2018 in his honor. After 66 attendees were present at its inaugural outing, that number increased to 88 people at the 2019 event. Many of the attendees are connected to soccer in some form, including coaches, players, board members and club owners.
