Sky Blue FC (0-2-0, 0 points) will return to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) action on Saturday, traveling to play the Chicago Red Stars (2-1-1, 7 points) at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill. Kickoff for the match will take place at 8:00 p.m. ET, and fans can watch live via go90 (USA) and NWSLsoccer.com (international).
“We are building something, and from each game we have improved in many areas,” said Denise Reddy, Sky Blue FC head coach. “I was very happy with our second half performance against Seattle where we dominated possession, especially in their half of the field. Now we are looking to put together the pieces in the final third to be more productive and create better opportunities. For me, it is not about the amount of shots and is more about the quality of the opportunities.”
Sky Blue FC was on the field this past Sunday, hosting Seattle Reign FC at Yurcak Field under some incredibly difficult weather. The lone tally in that contest came in the 6th minute, where Megan Rapinoe capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity that gave her team an eventual 1-0 result.
The Red Stars will have a quick turnaround after hosting the Houston Dash on Wednesday night at Toyota Park, emerging victorious by a score of 3-0. Chicago got on the board in the 7th minute via an own goal, adding to their total just four minutes later on a Lauren Kaskie finish. Sofia Huerta put an exclamation mark on the outing in the 74th minute, which created the final 3-0 result.
The 3-0 home win for the Red Stars came after a road victory last Saturday night when the team spoiled the home debut of Utah Royals FC at Rio Tinto Stadium, 1-0.
