First Two Matches of the NWSL Season Split by the Two Clubs

Sky Blue FC (7-8-2, 23 points) will return to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) action on Saturday, traveling to the Orlando Pride (6-6-5, 23 points) for a rubber match in their 2017 series. The teams split their first two contests of the season, with Sky Blue FC claiming a 2-1 result in May before most recently falling to the Pride in June, 3-2.

“The team is extremely motivated right now to rectify some of the issues that have been illustrated in our last few games,” said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. “We are in a situation that we feel is in our full control. If we properly manage the areas of concern, we will be able to return to our winning ways.”

Sky Blue FC enters Saturday night with hopes of capturing some momentum that the team can carry into the remainder of its 2017 campaign. The New Jersey club is winless in its last three games (0-2-1) but still very much holds the keys to its own fate. Currently level with Orlando on 23 points, Sky Blue FC finds itself just a single point off the fourth and final playoff position.

Holding a 4-2-2 record at Orlando City Stadium, the Pride will be playing in its third consecutive home match in eight days, most recently blanking the Washington Spirit on Tuesday night, 3-0. Sky Blue FC has yet to play in Orlando City Stadium (opened in 2017), but the team defeated the Pride in their only road meeting of 2016, 2-1.

Historically, Sky Blue FC leads this overall series with a cumulative record of 2-1-1.

Kickoff for Saturday night’s road fixture is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans will have three different ways to watch the action, with the match airing on the Huffington Post Women Facebook page, as well as on NWSLsoccer.com and via go90.

Sky Blue FC will return home to New Jersey on Saturday, August 19, hosting Seattle Reign FC for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Yurcak Field in Piscataway. Individual and group tickets for that match are available now online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
