Sam Kerr Looks to Break Single-Season Goal Record in Front of Hometown Crowd

Sky Blue FC (9-11-2, 29 points) will return to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) action on Sunday, hosting the first-place North Carolina Courage (15-6-0, 45 points) at Yurcak Field in its 2017 home finale. Kickoff for the match is set for 6:00 p.m. ET, and fans can purchase tickets online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).

“We are looking to put on a show this weekend for our extremely loyal fanbase that has always stuck with us,” said David Hodgson, Sky Blue FC assistant coach. “We want all of our fans to leave proud on Sunday after our final home game of the season. We are very respectful of North Carolina, and they are a solid team that deserves to be where they are. However, we are in no mood to see them win the Shield on our home pitch. We look to give them every bit of effort that we have.”

This weekend marks the third meeting of the 2017 campaign between Sky Blue FC and the Courage. The two clubs have split a pair of matches in North Carolina, and Sunday will be their first game of the season in New Jersey. In their first encounter, the Courage claimed a 2-0 result in May, with Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan recording 11 saves. The 11 stops were the most by a Sky Blue FC netminder since the NWSL was founded in 2013. These teams met for a second time in July as the NWSL on Lifetime Game of the Week, with an 84th minute game-winner from Maya Hayes to Sam Kerr giving Sky Blue FC the road win, 1-0.

History will once again be on the line on Sunday, as Sky Blue FC forward Sam Kerr looks to become the first player in NWSL history to score 17 goals in a single season. She is currently level with Kim Little (2014) on 16 scores, with her next finish giving her sole possession of the all-time record.

Sky Blue FC was officially eliminated from postseason contention following a 2-1 loss to the Washington Spirit two weeks ago, but the New Jersey outfit now looks to finish its 2017 home slate on a high note. With a win on Sunday, Sky Blue FC would have seven home victories on the year.

Tickets for Sunday’s home finale are available now online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849). For all of the latest news on Sky Blue FC, visit the team online and follow us on social media: @SkyBlueFC
