Sky Blue FC (0-4-1, 1 point) will return to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) action on Saturday, hosting the top-ranked North Carolina Courage (6-0-2, 20 points) at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. The match-up gets underway at 7:00 p.m., and tickets are available now online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849). A special guest will also be in attendance for the game, as Eric LeGrand serves as Sky Blue FC honorary captain.

“We are excited to play the top-ranked team in the league on our home field,” said Denise Reddy, Sky Blue FC head coach. “We have been working really hard on fixing some things, and we have been making some great strides along the way. This game is particularly exciting because it presents the perfect opportunity for our team to make a hard shift.”

Saturday marks the second meeting of the season between Sky Blue FC and North Carolina. The first encounter was the 2018 Sky Blue FC season opener and was played at WakeMed Soccer Park on March 31. Throughout the game, the two clubs battled in a scoreless stalemate until second half stoppage-time. Unfortunately for Sky Blue FC, it was then that Jaelene Hinkle found Jessica McDonald in the 92nd minute for a game-winning goal that handed the New Jersey side a 1-0 defeat.

The Courage enter Saturday night as the lone unbeaten team in the NWSL. Currently at 20 points on a 6-0-2 record, North Carolina is seven points clear of second-place Seattle Reign FC. In its most recent outing, the Courage edged the Washington Spirit last weekend in a Saturday home fixture, 1-0. In that match, defender Abby Erceg provided the game-winner in the 63rd minute on a goal that was assisted by Hinkle.

Historically, North Carolina leads the all-time series between these two clubs, owning an accumulative 2-1-1 record. Their lone meeting in New Jersey last year resulted in a 1-1 draw.

After this weekend, Sky Blue FC hits the road for a midweek pairing with the Washington Spirit before it returns home to Yurcak Field next Saturday, May 26, hosting Seattle Reign FC for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Tickets for that match are available now online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
