U.S. Women’s National Team Wins Pair of Games to Finish 2016 Slate
The U.S. Women’s National Team played its final two matches of 2016 this past week, defeating Romania in a pair of games that were hosted in California.
The first contest marked the return of Kelley O’Hara to the Bay Area, where she won the MAC Hermann Trophy while playing at Stanford University. The U.S. WNT put on a dominant performance in that fixture, which was played on Thursday at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, rolling to an 8-1 victory. The final match of 2016 was then played on Sunday, a 5-0 win over Romania at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. In that game, O’Hara registered an assist on a late stoppage time goal by Sam Mewis.
Perth Glory Battles Brisbane Roar FC to Scoreless Stalemate
The Westfield W-League in Australia continued over the weekend for a pair of Sky Blue FC players, as forward Sam Kerr and midfielder Nikki Stanton saw their Perth Glory side battle Brisbane Roar FC to a scoreless draw. Kerr wore the captain’s band in the match, while Stanton started and played the full 90 minutes. Watch highlights.
