Sky Blue FC (0-3-1, 1 point) will return to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) action on Saturday, playing Seattle Reign FC (3-1-1, 10 points) on the UW Medicine Pitch at Memorial Stadium. The road match-up gets underway at 10:00 p.m. ET (7:00 p.m. PT), and fans can watch live via Go90 Sports (USA) and NWSLsoccer.com (INTL).
Saturday marks the second meeting of the season between Sky Blue FC and Seattle. In the first encounter, Sky Blue FC hosted Reign FC at Yurcak Field in its 2018 home opener, where the two clubs were greeted by harsh conditions of rain, sleet and high winds. In the end, it was a 6th minute penalty kick to Seattle that made the difference. That opportunity was converted by Megan Rapinoe and was ultimately the lone score of a 1-0 result in favor of the road side. Reign FC was awarded a second penalty kick attempt in the 85th minute, but a double-save by Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan kept Seattle from extending the score line.
Sky Blue FC most recently hosted the Houston Dash at Yurcak Field last Saturday night, with Mexico international Katie Johnson striking twice in her first start of the young season. Unfortunately for the New Jersey club, her two goals would not be enough to hold off Houston, which eventually won by a tally of 3-2.
Reign FC is currently amid a two-game unbeaten streak after earning a 3-2 win over Portland Thorns FC last Saturday afternoon at Providence Park. Seattle saw three different goal-scorers find the back of the net in that contest, with Beverly Yanez, Jodie Taylor and Rumi Utsugi all contributing to the final outcome.
Historically, Sky Blue FC leads the all-time series between these two clubs, owning an accumulative 6-4-3 record. However, Reign FC holds the edge in its home stadium by a mark of 3-1-1.
After this weekend, Sky Blue FC returns home to Yurcak Field on Saturday, May 19, hosting the first-place North Carolina Courage for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Tickets for that match are available now online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849). A special guest will be in attendance for the game, as Eric LeGrand will be serving as the Sky Blue FC honorary captain.
