Sky Blue FC (9-9-2, 23 points) will return to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) action on Sunday, looking for a third consecutive win when it plays FC Kansas City (3-9-7, 16 points) at Children’s Mercy Victory Park. Kickoff for the match is set for 6:00 p.m. ET, and fans can watch the action live via Go90 or NWSLsoccer.com.

“We took a lot of confidence from last week’s game and getting the three points,” said David Hodgson, Sky Blue FC assistant coach. “Improving our defensive posture has been a key focus, so it was great to see all of our hard work lead us to a clean sheet. We now head into Kansas City with our tails up and looking for a win. Our attitude with every game moving forward is to treat it like a Cup Final.”

Sunday marks the third and final meeting of the season between Sky Blue FC and FC Kansas City. In their first pairing, the two clubs battled in a tightly-contested match-up that ended with Raquel Rodriguez hitting an 82nd minute game-winner off a feed from Mandy Freeman. The second time these two teams played resulted in one of the most dramatic comebacks in NWSL history. Trailing 2-0 in the 78th minute, Sam Kerr exploded for a 12-minute hat trick by finishing assists from three different teammates.

In its most recent outing, Sky Blue FC defeated the Boston Breakers last Saturday at Yurcak Field, 1-0. Kerr scored the lone tally for her 16th goal of the 2017 campaign, bringing her level with Kim Little (2014) for the all-time NWSL record. Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan registered the clean slate in net, her third of the season.

FC Kansas City saw a three-match winning streak snapped last weekend by the Orlando Pride, suffering a 2-1 loss after Marta connected with Alex Morgan in the 87th minute for a late game-winner.

Historically, FC Kansas City leads this head-to-head series with a 5-4-3 overall record. The two clubs are currently even in matches that have been played in Kansas City, with that mark standing at 2-2-1. Both of the previous two meetings this season occurred at Yurcak Field in New Jersey.

After playing FC Kansas City this weekend, Sky Blue FC will return home on Sunday, September 10, hosting the Washington Spirit for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff at Yurcak Field in Piscataway. Individual tickets for that match are available now online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
