Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that it has signed forward Imani Dorsey to its active roster as a national team replacement player. Dorsey will be available on Saturday when Sky Blue FC hosts Utah Royals FC at Yurcak Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff, and the news comes while midfielder Carli Lloyd and forward Savannah McCaskill are on international duty with the U.S. Women’s National Team.
“Since she arrived from school in May, Imani has been working really hard to get herself acclimated,” said Denise Reddy, Sky Blue FC head coach. “Imani is a dynamic attacking player who is capable of playing various positions, and she is also very good when she takes on players 1v1. She will be a great addition to our roster this weekend.”
Dorsey, 22, was the no. 5 overall selection by Sky Blue FC in the 2018 NWSL College Draft this past January. She recently arrived in New Jersey after finishing up her college education at Duke University.
The Maryland native was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year in 2017 and received United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America accolades. Last fall, she had a standout senior campaign at Duke, leading the Blue Devils with 47 shots, 38 points and a team-best 14 goals. Additionally, she recorded five game-winners and made 25 starts. She also went on an incredible offensive run where she scored a goal in six straight contests.
Internationally, Dorsey has competed within the U.S. Women’s National Team system at the U-15, U-17, U-18 and U-19 levels.
This Saturday, Sky Blue FC will be hosting a Kickoff to Pride Celebration when it welcomes Utah Royals FC to Yurcak Field. Tickets for the match are available now online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
