Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that Kaycee Gunion has been signed as a goalkeeper replacement. The move was made following a medical evaluation that Caroline Casey underwent this morning after suffering a neck strain at a team training session on Friday.

Gunion, 28, played collegiately for California State University at San Marcos, where she set school records for saves (187), goals against average (0.43) and matches played (73). She also recorded 40 shutouts and allowed a mere 11 goals during her junior and senior campaigns combined. The four-time NAIA All-American then continued her playing career with the San Diego SeaLions of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL), where she backstopped the SeaLions to the 2013 WPSL Championship. In addition to her success on the soccer field, Gunion has also excelled in the classroom, earning her Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2016.

The California native originally came to Sky Blue FC through the open tryouts process this preseason, and she has been training with the team as the third goalkeeper since then.

Sky Blue FC (0-6-1, 1 point) will host Seattle Reign FC (4-2-2, 14 points) at Yurcak Field tonight in Piscataway, N.J. The match-up, which is presented by Coach USA, gets underway at 7:00 p.m., and tickets are available now online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
