The Sunrise Association recently hosted a highly successful event at the Katz-Dalsey Academy Charter School in Camden, where proceeds raised will be used to support families battling childhood cancer in the Greater Philadelphia Area.
The 1st Annual GO FOR GOLD Soccer Challenge and Carnival included a 4v4 recreational soccer component that was structured by New Jersey Youth Soccer, and it also featured games, arts and crafts, characters and food trucks. Additionally, a very special guest appeared at the festival in Ethan Zohn, who is a two-time cancer survivor, philanthropist, former pro soccer player and three-time Survivor contestant who won Survivor: Africa.
“We were overwhelmed by the turnout and community support for our inaugural year,” said Rachel Black, Executive Director of Sunrise Day Camp for the Greater Philadelphia Region. “We are so grateful and eager to give all of it right back to our community. The May 7th GO FOR GOLD was everything we hoped for and then some. Thank you to everyone who helped us make it such a great success!”
Zohn also expressed his joy and gratitude for all of the stakeholders and participants who contributed to this fantastic event.
“I loved the local, community feel of GO FOR GOLD,” said Zohn. “We had local police, local businesses, New Jersey Youth Soccer, Camden Charter School Network staff and other cancer charities all come together to support the Sunrise Association and each of these wonderful families. It was a perfect alliance and expressed the true meaning of the word community.”
While this event has now come to a close, the opportunity to support the Sunrise Association is ongoing. Recognizing the incredible stress that is placed on a family when a child is battling any form of cancer, the mission of the Sunrise Association is to help bring back the joys of childhood to children battling cancer, along with their siblings and parents. Their foundation organizes summer camps at seven locations throughout the nation in addition to an international camp in Israel and a virtual experience as well. Further, the Sunrise Association conducts year-round programs and in-hospital recreation activities, all of which are offered completely free of charge.
